Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture at Stanford University

Peter Bergen, CNN National Security Analyst, to speak at Stanford

On Wednesday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. Hillel at Stanford and the Pearl Foundation will sponsor a Daniel Pearl Memorial lecture, “Manhunt: The Search for Bin Laden,” with Peter Bergen, CNN’s National Security Analyst.

CNN National Security Analyst Peter Bergen will discuss the 10-year hunt for Osama Bin Laden in a lecture at Stanford University this month.

Bergen, the author of four books about Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, will deliver the Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the CEMEX Auditorium in the Knight Management Center complex at the intersection of Serra Street and Arguello Way. The lecture is free to the public.

Bergen’s most recent book is “Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden from 9/11 to Abbottabad,” published in May. The Washington Post, in reviewing the book, said that it “virtually crackles with insider details,” and noted Bergen’s journalistic coup of conducting an in-person interview with Bin Laden in 1997. Bergen will sign copies of his book after the lecture.

Bergen is a print and television journalist and author, the director of the national security studies program at the New America Foundation in Washington D.C. and a fellow at Fordham University’s Center on National Security. He has held teaching positions at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.

The lecture honors the memory of Pearl, a Stanford graduate and Wall Street Journal foreign correspondent who was kidnaped and murdered by Islamic militants 10 years ago while investigating terrorist networks in Pakistan. Co-sponsors of the lecture are the Daniel Pearl Foundation, Hillel at Stanford, the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships and the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford.

Foreign correspondent Daniel Pearl of The Wall Street Journal was a Stanford alumnus murdered by Al Queda 10 years ago in the course of covering the War on Terror. This lecture series was founded to honor Danny’s commitment to the improvement of the human condition.

Peter Bergen is a print and television journalist and author, the director of the national security studies program at the New America Foundation in Washington D.C., a fellow at Fordham University’s Center on National Security, and CNN’s national security analyst.  His most recent book, Manhunt, is a New York Times bestseller.

Please join Peter Bergen on stage for a book signing after his presentation.
